Avon High School’s rowing team was established in 2007 and already the team is evolving remarkably! One hundred and forty (140) Avon students have taken advantage of the exciting new opportunity to participate in a unique and challenging sport that exemplifies teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, physical conditioning and commitment.

Together a group of dedicated visionaries, hard-working student-athletes, extraordinary volunteer coaches, fantastic volunteers, and generous families and donors are working to build a successful rowing program that will help steer young lives in a positive direction.

In 2007-08 Avon rowers began to compete successfully with established high school crews from throughout the region and the state, and our students are looking forward to participating in a full competitive fall and spring racing schedule in 2008-2009.

PRIVATE FUNDING IS ESSENTIAL

Our new crew needs your support to maintain our growing fleet, meet operational needs, and acquire the new and used equipment required to build a successful program. Competitive rowing is an expensive sport and the team relies almost entirely on private funds to support our mission for the benefit of Avon students. For example, the cost of one new, fully equipped racing boat is more than $25,000.

Due to the continued tremendous interest in the sport, the need for new boats and equipment to ensure all interested students may participate is significant. Private funds are also needed to ensure adequate coaching support and to assist students and families for whom pay-to-play fees may be prohibitive.

The Friends of Avon Rowing (FOAR) actively seek donations from individuals, businesses and

organizations interested in helping to make the dream of a rowing team at Avon High School a reality.

There are numerous sponsorship opportunities available providing all donors with meaningful recognition and excellent exposure and visibility. Rowing enthusiasts are typically well-educated and active individuals whose families and friends also surround themselves with people and products that demonstrate the same values as they do. We hope that you will take full advantage and consider becoming a sponsor by partnering with Avon High School's Crew!

GIVING OPPORTUNITIES

AHS Crew is offering spaces on a 6' x 10' banner to provide our contributing sponsors, businesses and donors with an opportunity of fantastic visibility for their community support.

This full-color banner will be prominently displayed at numerous high-profile Connecticut, Hartford, and regional venues including the Connecticut River waterfront and throughout Avon and the Farmington Valley during the 2008-09 season. The banner will be seen by more than 15,000 individuals at local high school and athletic events, and at state-wide regattas with over 5,000 high school athletes, their parents and supporters from 135 high schools in attendance.
