Welcome to Avon High School Rowing

We have had an exciting start with our Rowing Program for the year 2007-2008. Our boys and girls teams participated in the Spring Sprints successfully - thanks to the support of the City of Hartford, we had a successful spring out of Batterson Park Pond in Farmington, CT.

Now we move to the Fall Head Races (long distance).Rowers can participate in either fall or spring or both seasons.

Spring out... and Fall in :

There will be a short meeting after school for those interested in Fall Crew

AHS Gym

  Wednesday June 11, 2.15pm

BE THERE!

If unable to attend please contact us so you don't miss the registration deadline.

All Cheer for a Successful Spring:

    • 2 new fully equipped boats added to the fleet
    • a trailer to get us places
    • great coaches to raise the bar
    • 4 regattas and 3 scrimmages
    • competed successfully against 12 or more CT schools.
    • We are now an awesome team

And thanks to some excellent coaches, very supportive parents, and wonderful community.

What's up for Fall Crew:

Last year we paddled around Fischer Meadows' Spring Pond -  This year we will participate in a few scrimmages as well as ~3 Head Races  (ie. long distance up to 3 miles and usually on a river).

We are planning a clinic for incoming novices in August at the same place! Watch this space for more details.....

Fundraising : Consider this is your opportunity to get the name of someone special on the boat stripe, a seat, an oar, an erg. Contact the fundraising committee for more information on how you can help.  Take a look at our other fundraising efforts on the menu.

Friends of Avon Rowing (FOAR) Steering Committee Meetings:  Meetings of FOAR are planned for every 2nd Tuesday of the month in the AMS Media Center at 7.15pm. Sub-committees  and ad-hoc committees will meet as needed.

 Equipment update

Trailer: we have purchased a trailer -Thank You Simsbury!

Boats: Our 2 new Vespoli Ultralites have arrived - we are paying rent towards final ownership and would like to match the $8000 from the AHS Booster Club to help pay this off sooner.

Motors: we have purchase one 9.9HP motor for the launches as well as a 2nd hand 12' boat with a 10HP Motor.

Landwork Equipment: We have aquired some stretch bands and bungees, and thank you to Coach Rosow's family we now have our very own Bantam Bars for the serious work.

Things We Still Need

Being our first year there are many items small and large that we could put to good use.  Please keep your eyes peeled for any of the following:

ERGs - (ergonometer, aka rowing machine), preferably a Concept II, any model

Aluminium Boat - 12' or 14' with no leaks

Outboard Motor - 8 to 9HP  in good running condition

TV and DVD Player - for coaching videos and replay

Land work circuit equipment - benches for weight work.
