Welcome to Avon High School Rowing

Our Rowing Program, started in the fall of 2007, has now completed one full year of racing both Spring Sprints and Fall Head Races. Thanks to the support of the City of Hartford, we have been able to practice at Batterson Park Pond in Farmington, CT.

Rowers can participate in either fall or spring or both seasons. The fall season focuses on overall conditioning, technique and long distances. Winter training takes conditioning to a high with erg competitions and plenty of core work.  Our Spring is the ultimate focus, sending the most competitive novice and Varsity boats to the Connecticut Public Schools Rowing Association (CPSRA) Regatta.

Coaches Corner

Seniors, congratulations and all the best with all the colleges you have chosen.  Remember that we are still that other family and we anticipate seeing you all back at Emerson on Saturday May 28th, 2011.

To all the crew, alumni and upcoming freshmen of new additions we have .......

Coaches' Challenge for the fun filled summer :

1. You need to stay in shape, get fitter and enjoy doing it

(bike, swim, run, rollerblade or 2-3 x per week)!

2. We challenge all of you to participate in the Winding Trails Tri Series through the summer.

3. It runs every Tuesday from June 15th to August 17th - plan on July 6th, 20th, Aug 3rd, 17th.   You should aim to be doing the Big Tri by August 17th...

You don't have to do all legs of the triathlon, and you may want to start with the Tiny Tri and work your way up to the big one.

Captains will be communicating over the summer to let you know of any workout or social gatherings. Please contact us if you have not received any emails.

SEE ALSO Coach Kessler's home workout   and add 30 minutes of aerobic work (running, treadmill, erging, etc).

Fundraising

Consider this is your opportunity to get the name of someone special on the boat stripe, a seat, an oar, an erg. Contact the fundraising committee  for more information on how you can help.  Take a look at our other fundraising efforts on the menu.

Friends of Avon Rowing (FOAR) Committee Meetings

Meetings of FOAR are planned for every 3rd Thursday of the month in the AHS Library Meeting Room at 7.30 pm. Sub-committees  and ad-hoc committees will meet as needed.

AHS Booster Club - please attend and represent the crew team if at all possible. If you have paid your Booster dues and attend 3 time in the last year you are eligible to vote.  As a developing sport this is the one avenue we have to purchase needed equipment.
